Our First Black Pride RVA
Three Days of Pride with a Purpose
July 20-22, 2018
Richmond, VA
The first Black Pride RVA happened July 20-22, 2018. This inaugural Black and LGBTQ event is the first official event of its kind in Richmond, VA and even in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We had people from all over the commonwealth and beyond be a part of history in the making by coming out to one or all of the planned events. The theme for our historic moment was Pride with a Purpose. Our goal of the weekend events charged us to educate, embrace and celebrate the unique lived experiences of the Black LGBTQ community.
Us Giving Richmond Connections (UGRC) is the non-profit organization that hosted this historical event. The mission of UGRC is to improve the health and well-being of Black LGBTQ communities of greater Richmond. We formed as a group of dedicated Black LGBTQ community leaders who saw the need for a coming together of LGBTQ persons of color. During the summer of 2016, these leaders discussed and envisioned ways that the Black LGBTQ communities of Greater Richmond could benefit from an event that celebrates the fullness of who we are.
We are excited to learn together, party together and show our #pridewithapurpose for the second time this year and to welcome new sponsors that want to make history with us!
